Values, Philosophy, and History

  • Historical Foundations: I have studied the history of the student affairs profession and the developments that have ocurred through the inclusion of a larger variety of student, faculty, and staff member through my Introduction to Student Affairs course.  As an individual that received her Bachelor's Degree in History and Anthropology, I feel confident in my ability to identify trends in higher education through the lens of the past.  It is only by understanding the past that we can look to the future.

  • Societal/Cultural Context: I have explored the public role and societal benefits of student affairs in higher education, and I am able to discuss the contributions of student affairs to society as a whole.  I am working on examining other countries' higher education traditions.

  • Professional Service: I am a member of two professional organizations (SACSA and NASPA), an I see the value in service to those organizations as they have served me greatly.  I strive for continued development through my service to these organizations.
